How To Cook Filet Mignon In The Air Fryer

In a small bowl combine the Olive Oil and the Montreal Steak Seasoning. I like to let the seasoning mixture set for 15 minutes and allow the flavors to be released in the oil.

Take the Filet Mignon Steaks and use a pastry brush to brush the olive oil and Montreal Seasoning mixture onto both sides of the steaks.

I like to make sure that there is an even amount of steak seasoning on all sides of the filet mignon.

Preheat the Air Fryer to 400 degrees Fairenheight. I like to use Air Fryer Paper Liners to ensure that the clean up is quick and easy.

Place the steaks into the air fryer being sure that none of the steaks are touching. The cooking time of your steak will depend on its thickness and the desired level of doneness.

As a general rule, a one-inch-thick steak cooked at 400 degrees Fahrenheit will take around 10-12 minutes for medium-rare, 12-14 minutes for medium, and 14-16 minutes for well done.

I like to use a digital meat thermometer and recommend it highly. The internal temperature of your steak determines how well-done it is.

To ensure that your steak cooks evenly and reaches the desired temperature throughout, it’s essential to flip it halfway through the cooking process. This will help to create an even crust on both sides of the meat while allowing it to cook thoroughly.

Remove the Filet Mignon from the air fryer when it has reached the desired doneness. I like to place mine onto a wooden cutting board and allow them to rest for five minutes prior to cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Filet Mignon?

Filet mignon is a cut of beef that comes from the tenderloin area of the cow. It is considered to be one of the most tender and flavorful cuts of meat, making it a popular choice for steakhouses and high-end restaurants.

The name “filet mignon” is derived from French, with “filet” meaning “thick slice” or “fillet,” and “mignon” meaning “small and delicate.” This describes the unique characteristics of this steak – it’s a small, thick cut that is both delicate in texture and rich in flavor.

Filet mignon is typically cut into 1-2 inch thick portions, which are then cooked using high heat methods such as grilling, broiling, air frying or pan-searing. Due to its tenderness, filet mignon does not require much seasoning or marinating to enhance its natural flavors.

How To Pick The Best Filet Mignon?

Filet mignon is considered one of the most luxurious and flavorful cuts of meat, but with so many options available in the market, it can be challenging to pick the best filet mignon. Here is a brief guide to give you some tips on how to choose the best filet mignon for your next meal.

  1. Look for marbling

Marbling refers to the streaks of fat that run through the meat. While too much fat can make the meat tough, a little bit of marbling adds flavor and juiciness. Look for filet mignon with fine marbling throughout.

  1. Check the color

The color of filet mignon should be bright red with a slight pink hue in the center. Avoid any meat that has a brownish tint as it may not be fresh.

  1. Consider the grade

Filet mignon is graded based on its quality, with higher grades being more expensive but also more flavorful and tender. USDA Prime is considered to be top-of-the-line, while USDA Choice offers good quality at a lower price point.

  1. Choose thicker cuts

Thicker cuts of filet mignon are generally more desirable than thinner ones because they cook more evenly and retain their juices better.

  1. Buy from a reputable source

When shopping for filet mignon, buy from a reputable butcher or grocery store that sources their beef from high-quality suppliers.

  1. Age matters

Dry-aged steak has been hung in temperature-controlled conditions for several weeks before being sold – this process improves tenderness and intensifies

What Is The Best Way To Reheat A Filet Mignon?

Reheating this delicacy can be tricky as overcooking it can turn it dry and tough. Fortunately, with the help of an air fryer, you can enjoy your leftover filet mignon without compromising its taste and texture.

Here are some steps to follow on how to reheat a filet mignon in the air fryer:

Step 1: Preheat Your Air Fryer

Preheating your air fryer is crucial for even cooking. Set your air fryer to 400°F and let it heat up for about three minutes.

Step 2: Prepare Your Filet Mignon

Remove your filet mignon from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. This will prevent the steak from becoming too cold when placed in the air fryer.

Step 3: Seasoning

If you want to add extra flavor, season your steak with salt, pepper, or any other seasoning of choice before placing it in the air fryer basket.

Step 4: Cook The Filet Mignon

Place your seasoned filet mignon into the preheated air fryer basket. Depending on how thick your steak is, cook it between five to ten minutes until heated through. For more precise cooking time, use an instant-read thermometer to check if its internal temperature has reached around 125°F -130°F (medium-rare).

Step 5: Rest The Filet Mignon

Any cut of beef tastes best when it is allowed to rest for five minutes prior to cutting it. When you do cut it using a serrated knife is best.

If you like your steaks rare or medium-rare, then you need to pay close attention to the internal temperature as even an extra few degrees can mean the difference between perfectly cooked and overdone.
Here are some guidelines for what internal temperatures your steak should reach:
    Rare: 120-130°F (49-54°C)
A rare steak will be bright red in color with cool red juices flowing out when cut. The center of the meat will be warm but still slightly raw.
    Medium-rare: 130-135°F (54-57°C)
For medium-rare, your steak should have a warm pink center with slightly browned edges. The juices will be reddish-pink and not too watery.
    Medium: 135-145°F (57-63°C)
At this stage, your steak will have more browned edges with less pink in its center. The juices will also start to become lighter in color and less pink.
    Medium-well: 145-155°F (63-68°C)
To ensure that your steak cooks evenly and reaches the desired temperature throughout, it's essential to flip it halfway through the cooking process. This will help to create an even crust on both sides of the meat while allowing it to cook thoroughly.
